General Audition Information
Note: Appointment is required to audition.
Applications and Appointment Submittal Online April 1 - May 1 Only
- Application and appointment online is a one-step process. You must receive an email confirmation on appointment date and time or transmittal is invalid.
- Attend your appointment at your assigned time. For your audition, you will:
- sight-read music given at audition
- play music that you get when you submit your application online (you download, print and practice)
Registration
The Las Vegas Youth Orchestras will audition for the following instruments:
(The grade level listed below is the student's current grade now)
- Strings: Grades 2-11 (Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass)
- Woodwinds/Brass/Percussion: Grades 7 & under (Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Bassoon, All Saxophone types, French Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Bass Trombone, Baritone, Tuba & Percussion)
- Woodwinds/Brass/Percussion: Grades 8 & Up (Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, French Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba & Percussion)
- Not Eligible for High School levels: Harp, Piano, Guitar, Saxophone, Euphonium, English Horn
Note: The Youth Philharmonic Orchestra string section configuration is:
- Violin I – 16 musicians
- Violin II - 16 musicians
- Viola - 14 musicians
- Cello – 14 musicians
- Cello – 14 musicians
- Bass - 10 musicians
Fees
Notice:
- Students who are accepted into LVYO will receive notification through their account online.
- Students must either "accept" or "decline" (online) their LVYO invitation to participate.
- Those who accept must attend Registration Day to submit fees.
- All fees must be paid in full on June 7th, 2012 (last school day for CCSD) "Registration Day."
- Payment of fees is confirmation of your website response that you accept your position with LVYO and are officially registered. Fees are inclusive for Semester I and II.

Additional Fees
- The LVYO application fee of $40.00 is collected upon audition check-in. This fee is non-refundable. (If student is auditioning/applying for multiple instruments, fees apply for each instrument) Forms of payment accepted are: cash, check, money order or credit card. Make checks payable to "Friends of LVYO."
- The LVYO polo shirt is $25 and a required uniform for first concert. Payment is collected on Registration Day, (June 7th, 2012) unless shirt is back-ordered.
- * Youth Philharmonic females are required to purchase ($80 new) or ($40 used) their uniform black dress for the season. Payment is collected in full, on Registration Day, June 7th, 2012. A limited supply of gently used dresses is available for purchase.
Registration Day
All fees must be paid in full and all required forms turned in on Registration Day (June 7th, 2012 - the last day for CCSD nine-month schools).
This is the deadline for all accepted participants to enroll in LVYO for the 2012-2013 Season.
Financial Need Statements for need-based student funding assistance. Submit form by deadline (audition day, May 17, 2012). Applications will be reviewed by Financial Aid Panel. Limited financial aid available. Information is kept strictly confidential. Those awarded assistance will be notified upon program acceptance.
Disclosures
LVYO Student Orchestra Level Placement Policy: Students will be placed primarily by playing ability. As usual, factors such as previous LVYO participation/attendance, student maturity level, and instrument need, will also determine student orchestra placement.
The new season will bring a change in rehearsal days and times.
LVYO/FLVYO reserves the right to make changes to the schedules at any time. Should CCSD change school start/end times, changes to the rehearsal days/times may be necessary. LVYO/FLVYO will make changes as necessary, taking measures to preserve seat hours and rehearsals, in circumstances that may occur which are beyond our control.
Points to Remember
- Bring your $40.00 application fee to your audition. Cash/checks/money orders payable to "Friends-LVYO." Credit cards accepted include Mastercard, Visa, Discover, American Express. Remember to bring your signed contract (downloaded form during application process online)
- Placement in the Las Vegas Youth Orchestras will be based upon: [not necessarily in order] LVYO audition results (student's ability), instrumentation (the need for your instrument), recommendation of school music teacher, and recommendation of LVYO Conductor(s) and Executive Director.
- Acceptance into the program requires your commitment (rehearsals and concerts) for the entire LVYO concert season (late August – early May). The Las Vegas Youth Orchestras polo shirt is the required concert uniform attire for the first concert (Fall Concert).
- Registration Day - If accepted, you must be present at Registration Day. All participants must register on this date for official enrollment, collection and processing of required forms and payment of fees.
- Please make sure your address and personal information is complete and accurate before transmitting your application online.
- Arrive 30-40 minutes prior to your audition appointment time.
Application fee is non-refundable. Fees may be waived for students who are on the Federal Government's "Free and Reduced Lunch Program" Please bring document proof of FRL status.
