LAS  VEGAS

2008-2009  SEASON                                                        (www.lvyo.org)


PHILHARMONIC: (5-8 years experience; Grades 10-12; Full  Symphonic Orchestra)

  • Approximately 30  weeks with 33 rehearsals meeting mostly once a week for 3 hours per rehearsal session, & 3-4 concerts per season,  eligible for CCSD ½ credit hr. per semester (1 credit hr. per year)
  • Study & preparation for three concerts, and sometimes an additional concert
  • Offers Gr.11/12 Concerto Competition/Apply-Aug.; Audition -Dec.; winner solos with orchestra at Spring Concert
  • Enrichment and advanced study of musical repertoire for higher levels of music learning
  • Complex orchestra repertoire in complete orchestral setting at collegiate and pre-collegiate level
  • Develop skills in teamwork and student’s part as it relates to student’s section and entire orchestra
  • Occasional visits from guest conductors/clinicians, Overseas Concert Tour  projected in 5-year cycles
  • Opportunity to work in sectionals with professional section coaches
  • Role model for Symphony, Sinfonia, & Ensemble students
  • Opportunity to develop friendships with select musicians county-wide

SYMPHONY:  (4-8 years experience; Grades 9-12; Full Symphonic Orchestra)

  • Approximately 28 weeks meeting once a week for 2.5 hours per rehearsal session, eligible for ½ credit hour per year (2 semesters)
  • Study & preparation for season’s three concerts
  • Complex orchestra repertoire with full orchestra complement
  • Develop and refine individual orchestral skills in preparation for standard symphonic literature
  • Occasional visits from guest conductors
  • Opportunity to work in sectionals with professional section coaches
  • Role model for Sinfonia and Ensemble students
  • Opportunity to develop friendships with select musicians county-wide

SINFONIA:  (Strings only; Grades 6-10)

  • Approximately 28 weeks meeting once a week for 1.5 hours per rehearsal session
  • Study and preparation for season’s three concerts
  • Added enhancement and refinement of basic string orchestra skills
  • Preparation for playing in upper level group with full symphonic complement
  • Training in artistry needed to develop into effective orchestra members
  • Occasional visits with guest conductors
  • Opportunity to work in sectionals with professional section coaches
  • Cultivation of discipline, skills, technique & confidence required to develop their talents
  • Role model for Ensemble students
  • Opportunity to develop friendships with select musicians county-wide

ENSEMBLE:  (Strings only; Grades 3-8)

  • Approximately 28 weeks meeting once a week for 1.25 hours per rehearsal session
  • Study and preparation for season’s three concerts
  • Development of orchestra skills
  • Training in artistry needed to develop into effective orchestra members
  • Occasional visits with guest conductors
  • Cultivation of discipline, skills, technique & confidence required to develop their talents
  • Level of concert repertoire usually is equal to or above that of school district’s Middle School Advanced Orchestras
  • Opportunity to develop friendships with select musicians county-wide
