  • Full Symphonic Orchestra
  • Grades 10-12
  • 5-8 years experience

Course Description

  • Approximately 33 rehearsals (total with semesters I and II) meeting mostly once a week for 2.5 hours per rehearsal session, and three-four concerts per season, eligible for a total of CCSD half-credit hour over a period of two semesters
  • Study and preparation for three to four concerts, and occasional special performances
  • Offers Gr.11/12 Concerto Competition/Apply-Aug.; Audition -Dec.; winner solos with orchestra at Spring Concert
  • Enrichment and advanced study of musical repertoire for higher levels of music learning
  • Complex orchestra repertoire in complete orchestral setting at collegiate and pre-collegiate level
  • Develop skills in teamwork and student's part as it relates to student's section and entire orchestra
  • Occasional visits from guest conductors/clinicians, Overseas Triennial Concert Tour (Tour Years- June 2008, June 2011, June 2014)
  • Opportunity to work with professional section specialists
  • Role model for Symphony, Sinfonia, and Ensemble students
  • Opportunity to develop friendships with select musicians county-wide, and be recognized locally, regionally, nationally and globally
  • Youth Philharmonic students are offered an Overseas Triennial Concert Tour (once every three years; June/July 2014, June/July 2017) through a special summer program sponsored by the Friends of the Las Vegas Youth Orchestras (non-profit).  The summer tour program, with Guest Conductor, is not part of the CCSD (Clark County School District) partnership that exists during the school year. The tour is voluntary, and past tours to Vienna, Salzburg, Prague and China) are testimonials of its' success. Students reap benefits in life-long experiences, understanding of world cultures, playing magnificently for local audiences, and showing ambassadorship for our city, state and nation.
