Las Vegas Youth Philharmonic Conductor
Ryan D. Watson
Mr. Watson has over twenty-five years of experience as a string musician. He grew up in Tucson, AZ and began his training in the Tucson Junior Strings, a chamber music program, and the Philharmonic Youth Orchestra of Tucson, a full orchestra program. His experiences in these programs inspired him to pursue a career in conducting and teaching. He has been teaching orchestra in the Clark County School District since 2004. He earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Arizona graduating at the top of his class and studied viola with Hong-Mei Xiao. He is currently the director of orchestras at Coronado High School in Henderson. Under his leadership the orchestra has grown to over 160 members offering three levels of orchestra including a full symphony. His orchestras consistently receive superior ratings at festival performances.
Mr. Watson also adjudicates district events and teaches private violin and viola lessons in the southwest region of the valley. In addition to his orchestral conducting, Mr. Watson enjoys conducting musical theater productions at Coronado and in the Las Vegas community. He has served as the president of the Nevada Chapter of the American String Teacher’s Association. He is a member of the Nevada Music Educator’s Association and the National Association for Music Education. When off the podium Mr. Watson enjoys spending time with his wife Christy and their two children Steven and Adelaide.
